In the heart of South Funen, you will find one of Denmark’s most remarkable natural treasures – UNESCO Global Geopark The South Funen Archipelago. As our guest at Hotel Faaborg Fjord, you are staying right in the middle of this unique landscape, shaped by the Ice Age and recognised internationally for its outstanding natural beauty and geological heritage. Step outside and you are met by rolling hills, dramatic coastal cliffs, gentle beaches and a sea dotted with small islands. 

Just 3 kilometres from the hotel, you will find the centre of Faaborg with its charming streets and cafés. A short drive away, you can experience Odense's cultural life and Egeskov Castle. If you want to get out on the water, you can take a walk down to the harbour and hop on the ferry to the surrounding islands. 

Island hopping in the South Funen Archipelago

The islands of the South Funen Archipelago are strung together like pearls on a string. From Faaborg Harbour, you can easily take the ferry to Bjørnø, Avernakø, Drejø, Ærø, Skarø, Hjortø or Lyø. 

We are happy to help you arrange island hopping for conferences and events, and we have extensive experience combining the experience with specially selected team-building exercises, delicious packed lunches or perhaps a tasty welcome drink on Bjørnø.

Stay overnight in a shelter  

Want to try something completely different? Combine your hotel stay with a night under the stars in our private forest. Here you will find large shelters, a cosy campfire site and long tables made of solid wood. It is the perfect place for socialising, partying and outdoor activities with extra comfort. 

If you bring your conference guests along, we can make the area extra inviting with fairy lights, speakers and food cooked over a campfire. White sails over the long tables ensure that you don't have to worry about rain or dew. We provide soft mats, cushions and all the practicalities, and you can order twist bread, popcorn and coffee for the trip.

Hiking, mountain biking, or cycling routes 

Faaborg and the surrounding area are a paradise for anyone who loves being active in nature. Here you will find running, cycling and walking routes with the fjord and islands as a beautiful backdrop. 

Take a trip along the archipelago trail, a 220 km beautiful nature trail, or explore Svanninge Bakker, also known as the Funen Alps because of its hilly terrain. There are beautiful routes here for both hiking and mountain biking. 

You can borrow a bicycle from us. You can also bring your own and store it safely in the hotel garage. We also provide air, repair kits and equipment, so you have everything you need for a great trip surrounded by beautiful nature and plenty of fresh air. If you would like a packed lunch for your trip, you can make it from the breakfast buffet or order one from the Brasserie the day before. 

Faaborg Town Centre 

Faaborg is a charming market town with cobbled streets, small shops, cafés and a lively harbour area with a popular harbour bath. There is a great atmosphere here all year round. From summer music and markets to winter tranquillity and cosy little streets. 

As a fantastic historical offer, you can go on a city walk with Faaborg's night watchmen. From the 1300s and all the way up to the 1900s, the night watchmen were responsible for maintaining peace and order, taking care of the street lighting in the city's streets and raising the alarm in the event of fire or other threats. To keep the people of Faaborg safe and calm, the night watchmen sang a night watchman's verse every hour. In the centre of Faaborg, the old night watchman tradition is being revived. Every evening at 8 p.m. during the summer months, the night watchmen walk from the bell tower through the streets, telling stories about the town's history.

Wine tasting, Egeskov Castle and Heartland 

Along the south coast of Funen, there are small vineyards and distilleries offering local culinary experiences. Just a 20-minute drive from the hotel is Egeskov Castle, one of Europe's best-preserved moated castles, with an exciting 460-year history. 

In late spring, you can experience the Heartland Festival, which is held in the castle park around Egeskov Castle. The festival offers a fantastic combination of music, food and contemporary art. 

In the footsteps of Hans Christian Andersen 

You cannot mention Funen without also mentioning Hans Christian Andersen. In Odense, you can visit his childhood home and see where many of his fairy tales took shape. All over Funen, you will find traces of artists who have been inspired by the island's nature, light and water. And if you are interested in art, you will find a wide selection of galleries, museums, etc. both in Faaborg and the rest of Funen.
